Hydroponics Room

Students look after our school's hydroponics room, learning how to grow plants and produce inside with out using soil.  We have 5 different system types being run in the room.

Garden Boxes

Once the seeds have sprouted and the ground is ready for planting, students plant and maintain the schools garden boxes.

Honey Business

Students help look after several honey bee colonies while learning about the life cycle and factors that affect honey bees. This project is used as fundraiser for the program. Students run it like a small business, do the physical labor, promote and sell the honey.

To the Moon and Back

As a part of the Grade 9 Science curriculum, students learn about space exploration by designing and launching a bottle rocket to safely land an egg astronaut on the ground.  This project was made possible by the Devon Science Giant grant.

Special Programs

Picture

Tomatoshere

Students run an experiment to observe if there is a difference in the germination time of tomato seeds that went up to space, and ones that stayed on Earth.   Once germinated, the results are sent in, and the plants are added to our Hydro room to grow tomatoes over the winter.

Fish in Schools

We receive about 100 Rainbow trout eggs in January, watch them hatch, learn about their life cycle and then release them in June.  Students look after the fish and track their growth and development.

Agriculture in the Classroom

We receive several program kits, posters and educational materials that help us learn about agriculture.  Some kits include: Soil, Prairie Grain, and Micro Sprout.
